the people Helping create new hope

We are very proud of our fantastic founders of LAP Research.

For nearly 11 years now, since its formation, LAP Research has been entirely run by its trustees, with help along the way from colleagues, friends and professional supporters.

We’ve kept our running costs to the absolute minimum so we can pass on as much of the money donated directly to research.

Our ambassadors are some of our most committed supporters, championing and supporting the charity in any and every way they can. Each has, in some way, been directly affected by the diseases about which the charity is most committed to researching and finding new options for cures.

We would welcome new ambassadors to join us in our work and if you are interested, please do get in touch!

Mr Philip Barrett
I grew up in a family of educators. My mother was a violinist and music teacher, and my father, a leader in the advancement of campus life programs. Their example instilled in me a deep respect for scholarship and an affinity for environments where learning happens.

The most interesting aspect of architecture, for me, is crafting spaces that respond to the activity patterns of their occupants.

My innate appreciation for the way people interact, learn, and create is what’s steered my focus in higher education work.

The dual challenge in designing learning environments is to create memorable spaces that are tailored to their communities, while still flexible enough to evolve as institutional programs and priorities change.

Whether it’s big-picture planning, detailed programming, complex problem solving, or creating a bold design gesture, my goal is to build environments that reflect community culture, and respond to the way people live, work, and learn.
About lap research

‍LAP Research was founded in 2007 by two surgeons who specialise in the area of medicine known as HPB. They recognised the need for a charity dedicated to research into the wide range of conditions and illnesses that affect all of these organs, rather than focus on one particular organ or disease
